Advanced Diploma in Beauty Therapy –Level 4 (Dermal Technology)

Course Overview

The Level 4 programme is designed to give a further professional progression in skills development at the Advanced Diploma Level of Beauty Therapy to those who want to specialise as Professional Dermal Technicians.

Duration:
3 months including internship at the student Salon
Requirement:
It is recommended that Learners should have achieved all the competences at the Advanced Diploma in Beauty Therapy level- 3 (Spa Therapy-option) or its equivalent.

Dermatology and Microbiology

  • Study the structure and function of the skin
  • Skin-related diseases and treatments


Chemistry of Hair and Beauty Products

This unit is about developing an understanding relating to the chemistry of products used in the hair and beauty sector through theoretical research. You will explore the chemistry of active ingredients, the effects and safe use of active ingredients, the properties of packaging materials in relation to their structure, the properties and effects of ultra-violet radiation on hair and beauty products and their packaging materials. On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the chemistry of active ingredients in hair and beauty products.
  • Understand the effects and safe use of active ingredients in hair and beauty products.
  • Understand the properties of packaging materials in relation to their structure.
  • Understand the properties and effects of ultra-violet radiation on hair and beauty products and their packaging materials.


Physiology of Ageing

At the completion of the Physiology of Aging Course, the student will be able to:

  • appreciate the interconnection between the body's physiological systems;
  • understand an overview of human physiology and what are the normal structures and functions of the individual systems;
  • realize some of the varied physiological aspects of normal aging;
  • consider physiological system changes and/or the impact of disease on that system
  • appreciate the student's individual abilities to affect positive change whether that change is expressed in the home, community, work place, or institution;
  • anticipate the hidden gains that may be realized in health adversity.
